Just an hour ferry-ride south of Corfu, you can find Paxos – one of Greece’s less-crowded islands. After spending some time on the island, I’m outlining where to find the best restaurants in Paxos, Greece and some of the best dishes to order!
Making your way around Paxos
Paxos is a fairly small island, making it easy to drive from one end to the other just for lunch or dinner. There are three major “cities” – Gaios, Lakka, and Longos – with Gaios as the largest (although it’s still quite small). Outside of these cities themselves, there are still restaurants and houses, but they’re most often clustered in these three cities.
I’m making this post because I find information about Paxos online to actually be quite limited, and information about restaurants to be unreliable or sparse. This is just my attempt to lift up some restaurants that I have found to be really wonderful.
**Disclaimer – In the spirit of full transparency, I will say that I don’t love seafood, so this may color my recommendations in that I’m not always ordering the seafood dishes when I am out and about in Paxos. Do with this information what you will.
Best restaurants in Paxos
There are a couple of restaurants that I find myself keep wanting to come back to in Paxos:
- Steakhouse Arkas – Contrary to its name, this is not a steakhouse. Arkas is more of a typical Greek taverna on a very quiet, inland road. It’s a nice break from the more crowded piazza areas in Gaios or Lakka and seems to be more of a hidden gem. They are famous for full roasted pork and lamb, and their kontosouvli is amazing! They also serve free ice cream dishes for dessert, making for a fun and laid back night out.
- O Giros Ton Paxon – It’s crazy to me that this place has lower reviews online as it’s gyros are so good and it’s always packed for lunch and dinner. Would highly recommend this place for either pita gyros or gyros on the plate (I prefer pork, but to each their own)
- KOuzini – Another place with lower reviews that baffles me. This is a hybrid Greek-Italian restaurant run by a husband and wife who are Greek-Italian. It’s heavily seafood-focused and really high quality, especially for pasta.
- Restaurant Alexandros – This place is always packed and a reservation for dinner is a must. It’s in downtown Lakka (instead of Gaios) and really one of the best restaurants in town. A must try is their marinated pork leg!
- Aeolus Beach Bar Paxos – If you are at the beach on this side of the island Aeolus Beach Bar is a great lunch spot. I don’t love their “Polynesian” dishes, but their smash burger is amazing.
- Il Capriccio Creperie Gelateria – Not a restaurant, but this is the best place to get gelato on the island. It’s right on the water in downtown Gaios and always gets busy around 9-10pm (but moves fast and is worth it).
Other restaurant/bar notes for Paxos
Outside of my core recommended restaurants, there are some other spots that I’ve liked, either for aperativo or a snack.
- Porto Vecchio – On the very edge of the port in Gaios, Porto Vecchio is a chill spot for drinks, away from some places that always have loud music playing.
- Erimitis Bar & Restaurant – This is a well-known restaurant because of it’s incredible view of Ermitis beach and cliffs, which has the best sunset on the island. However, this has also made this place incredibly busy and not that great. It can be a good spot for a drink but I wouldn’t recommend eating here. An even better idea is taking a small cooler with some drinks and snacks and walking down to the Ermitis beach to watch the sunset from there.
